Friday, 4.30pm - A BABY was found playing just inches from a stash of drugs hidden in the bedroom of her mum's home, a court was told.Police who raided the Grantham home of Joanne Murphy found the 11-month-old girl crawling around on a bed.
Inside the same room they found a handbag squashed down the side of a wardrobe.
Lois Colley, prosecuting, told Lincoln Crown Court 162grams of amphetamine were found in a plastic bag inside the handbag.
The drugs had a street value of almost 2,000.
Police also found 50 cash and a mobile phone. When the phone was later examined it was found to contain messages linking Murphy to drug dealing.
Murphy, 30, a mother of five of Melbourne Road, Grantham, admitted possession of amphetamine with intent to supply on 5 November 2008.
She was given a 12 month jail sentence suspended for two years together with a nine month drug rehabilitation requirement.
Judge John Machin told her "You are being given a chance but you will not be getting another one. If you are caught at this again you will go to prison."
Chris Milligan, defending, said Murphy had been abusing amphetamine for many years but was motivated to kick her habit.
He said she became involved in dealing due to pressure from a former partner with whom she is no longer involved.
He told the court "She has a new relationship with a respectable partner."
