Friday, 2.15pm - A PROUD part of Britain's history will be on display at Grantham Museum as part of an RAF exhibition starting next weekend. The centrepiece will be a unique piece from a 'Dambusters' plane - the Lancaster bomber gunnery hatch.
The exhibit will also feature a host of displays documenting the longstanding relationship between the RAF and Lincolnshire.
Special guest Richard Todd, star of The Dambusters film, will open the exhibit on Saturday, September 26 along with Mark Postlethwaite and Alex Bateman who featured in a television documentary called 'Last of the Dambusters'.
Julie Asworth of Grantham Museum said: "This will be a fantastic exhibition chronicling the longstanding relationship between the RAF and Lincolnshire, as well as charting the heroic actions of the 617 'Dambusters' squadron.
"Grantham Museum is thrilled to have the only under belly gunners hatch in existence on long term loan from the R.A.F. "Members of the public are invited to the exhibition's opening to get a first look at this exciting and unique piece of Dambuster history and hear first hand the exciting journey that led to the discovery of Lancaster ED825 on a hillside in France."
Visitors can also see objects from Grantham Museum's unique Harry Humphries collection. Harry Humphries was the adjutant for 617 Squadron at the time of the Dams Raid.
The museum will be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, September 26, with the opening commencing at 12.15pm.
The exhibition will be on show until January 2010.
