Thursday, 9.30am - A NEW full-time community radio station exclusively for the Grantham area launches on Monday.Gravity FM will start broadcasting on 97.2FM at 7am on Monday with breakfast show presenter James Jonathan Day.

Volunteer director Dennis Kay said: "A small team of volunteers has worked tirelessly over the past year to bring this project to fruition, and it is our intention to serve the area with a service of truly local radio providing entertainment, local information and giving people the chance to be involved.

"We have a wealth of talented people, deserving causes and fascinating places in this area which deserve recognition and it is the duty of Gravity FM to give them the opportunity."

The station held its first broadcast in March 1997 using a restricted licence that allowed two four-week broadcasts a year from a studio at Grantham College.

Last year volunteers set up a not-for-profit Community Interest Company and secured a licence to broadcast all year round.

The college has now allowed the station to set up permanently in a cottage in Riverside Walk. Students are helping to renovate the buidling, which will have full disabled access.

An antenna has been placed on top of the Baird's Malt building to give the best possible coverage.

Local news headlines will be provided by the Journal.
