Thursday, 10am - CAMPAIGNERS fighting plans to build a wind farm near Bottesford were shown overwhelming support at an action meeting held in the village on Wednesday.BLOT - Belvoir Locals Oppose Turbines - organised the meeting to inform villagers about Ridgewind's plans to build eight 310ft turbines between Bottesford and Normanton.

The group, which successfully campaigned against the Thackson's Well wind farm less than half-a-mile away last year, told 170 villagers how they could join the fight against the Palmer's Hollow development.

They were urged to write letters of objection to Melton Borough Council, their local councillors and to contribute to the campaign, which could cost up to 50,000 to fund if the application ends up going through a public inquiry.

One of the campaign leaders Jamie Mawer said: "I'm angry that Ridgewind have the audacity to put the application in after reading the inspector's report on the Thackson's Well wind farm.

"How they think it will be given the time of day I don't know.

"We felt we had to give all we could to the Thackson's Well campaign and we will do the same with this one.

"Hopefully the decision will go our way again but we still need everyone's support."

Villagers donated 800 at the end of the meeting, which will allow BLOT to fly a blimp at the site to illustrate the height of the proposed wind turbines at Palmer's Hollow.

The deadline for letters of objection or support to be sent to Melton Borough Council is January 31.
