Monday, 3.30pm - A TAXI firm owner has seen a 90 per cent drop in business after his phone lines went down 10 days ago.Jim Gray, of Westgate-based Grantham Taxis, was cut off when his service provider Global Telecoms went bust and cut thousands of customers' lines all over the country last Tuesday.
Now, customers calling Grantham Taxis' 01476 594594 number are greeted with an out of order tone.
Furious Jim may now have to wait another week to get a permanent phone line installed, leaving his 18 drivers with fewer and fewer customers.
He said: "This is killing the business. We had no warning whatsoever and it has left our customers not knowing what's happening.
"There's rumours going around that we have gone bust but I want people to know that's not true.
"I am experiencing a problem which is completely out of my hands."
Jim has gone back to BT but has been told it could be next Friday before his line is connected - another week of missed calls and lost business.
A spokesman said: "BT is doing everything possible to minimise the time it takes to restore service for Global Telecoms and Technology Ltd customers who wish to have their service provided by BT Business.
"The time taken to restore service will depend on an individual customer's requirements."
Until Grantham Taxis gets its old number back, customers can contact the firm on 07903 131683.
