YOUNG nursery children had the opportunity to play with a fire engine when they were visited by Grantham’s fire and rescue team.
The young children of Start Right Nursery, in Trent Road, Grantham, have recently been studying the topic of transport and the emergency services.
Nursery manager Lisa Spridgens has said: “It’s really important for children to meet the emergency services who talk to them about staying safe. For example today they talked about fire safety.”
The children tried on the helmets and enjoyed playing with the lights and sirens of the vehicle.
They were also given the chance to have a go with the fire hose. Then an emergency brought the visit to a halt.
Lisa said: “The children have really enjoyed it and the staff would like to thank the fire service on the children’s behalf.”
Children at the nursery have previously been visited by the police force, fitting in with their topic of study.
The staff are looking to organise more talks with the emergency services and would like to be visited by the ambulance service.
