1st Galaxy Fireworks, a Grantham firm which runs a store in North Street, has been successful in its bid to compete at a coveted international firework competition.

The annual competition, in Hannover, Germany, is staged in the beautiful Royal Gardens, where six teams from around the world each provide a 23-minute firework spectacular to music.

The stunning Baroque Gardens provide a stunning backdrop for the artists to paint the sky as each company test their skills to win the votes of the six judges. Each will be awarded points for artistic interpretation and technical skill.

1st Galaxy Fireworks is no stranger to large events, having represented Great Britain in Cannes in 2011, and this year the firm were finalists in the British Fireworks “Champion of Champions” event in Plymouth.

The 16-strong team of professionals will set off in late May with a lorry full of equipment and pyrotechnics for the journey to Hannover and have just two days to rig the monumental display.

The family-owned firm, which has been providing displays now for over two decades, has become well-known for its awe inspiring shows and returns each year to Grantham to provide the firework display for Lincolnshire Fire Aid, as well as opening its doors to Grantham at the North Street store.
