GRANTHAM’S own version of the Grand National - the Wyndham Park Duck Race - took place on Easter weekend with a five-year-old girl scooping the top prize.

Georgina Dutfield was presented with £50 after her duck was first over the finish line in the Grantham Kesteven Rotary Club event.

However, what is usually a sprint turned into a marathon thanks to changeable weather.

Organiser John Asher said: “There was a good crowd present at the start of the race but a change of weather with wind and rain sent the ducks back the way they had come.

“Eventually - an hour later - the winners arrived at the finishing post!”

Second prize on the day went to Mr A Geeson.
