PLANS for a foodbank in Grantham are moving along nicely, and the launch is expected to be in only a few months’ time.
However, the launch depends on the support given to the cause, which will help people in financial troubles feed their families.
Brian Hanbury, who is leading the project on behalf of the churches of Grantham, said: “Our hope is to up and running by the middle of this year but this will all be dependant on forthcoming support.
“But delays at the moment are a comfortable town centre location that has the right feel to meet with our future clients. A place were we can offer a cup of tea a listening ear, further direction to support based projects and fulfil the vouchers that support agencies will be distributing.
“This could be a shared base, cafe or small restaurant or food distributor a place with a comfortable and caring feel.”
The group also needs a short-term storage facility, supermarkets to agree to collect food from shoppers, and volunteers to help run the foodbank.
Foodbank are franchises of The Trussell Trust, of which there are 70 nationwide.
