A PLEA from a town football club looking for help securing their ground has been answered.

Mark Fardell, manager of Harrowby United, appealed for help through the Grantham Journal from anyone who could assist the club in building a new fence to keep out vandals hindering efforts to improve the team’s Harrowby Fields ground.

Mark hoped there might be a business or individual in the town with disused materials which could help but instead was rewarded with funding for a brand-new 52m long metal fence courtesy of Kath and Dave Gadd of Riverside, Grantham.

The club were contacted by the couple within days of the story being published and the fence was erected within a week.

Mark said: “We’re a bit in awe to be honest that someone can come forward and do that. You just don’t see it much nowadays.

“I used to know Dave through the youth centre when I was younger but we lost contact over the years. It’s going to make such a difference.

“It just makes us feel so much more secure now and we can leave the goals up.”
