Generous club members raised £205 within an hour for Help for Heroes following the death of soldier Lee Rigby in Woolwich in May.

Mick Gray, a member of the Electric Club who runs a roofing firm in Grantham, won £30 in the club’s regular Open the Door competition, but instead of taking the money he decided to give it to charity and other members followed as a tin was taken around the club.

Club steward Paul Drury said: “We are very pleased, but what shocked us most was that within an hour we got up to £205.”

Members pay a pound in the competition to open a door and see if they have won a cash sum.
