In recognition of his long-established links with the British Model Flying Association (BMFA), Roy Wright has been made an honorary member.

Roy, who many will know as chairman of the Grantham Carnival and Events Group, has played a key role in the management and organisation of competitions held on Barkston Heath, for more than 10 years.

He was invited to the BMFA annual awards to collect a framed certificate, presented by Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Alcock.

Roy said: “This is an award given to very few people and so I feel very honoured to have received it.”

In the awards programme, Roy was referred to as “very much part of the team”. It also stated: “Without Roy, the Free Flight Technical Committee would have great difficulty in providing with free flight community with what has become one of the best free flight events in the world.

“He cares for the success of the event and never hesitates to work long hours and fit in with lat finishes or any other emergencies that may arise.”
