Fittingly, Grantham Rivercare marked their 10th anniversary by cleaning up the River Witham on Saturday.

Over 30 people including MP Nick Boles (back of picture) got stuck-in clearing shopping trolleys, a sewing machine, an office chair, bottles, cans and more.

Afterwards at a buffet in the Wyndham Park bowls pavilion, photos and cuttings of their work over the decade were displayed, alongside various accolades like their Lincolnshire Environmental Award for 2014.

Formed by Grantham Civic Society with guidance from Keep Britain Tidy’s Andrew Walters and Anglian Water sponsorship, since their first clean up in October 2004 Grantham Rivercare has collected in excess of 750 sacks of rubbish and a miscellany of other items during more than 50 organised clean ups.

Leader John Knowles said: “Since then the group has gone from strength to strength and in doing so has gone a long way towards creating a vastly improved amenity which is much appreciated by both local residents and vistitors alike.

“A huge thank you must go to all those people who have given up their time through the years to keep our delightful stretch of river in good shape. Here’s to the next ten years!”
