The first section of Grantham’s new relief road will be surfaced this month, causing the closure of the B1174 overnight for a week.

The road between Little Ponton and Spittlegate will close overnight from May 25 to June 1, excluding the bank holiday weekend.

The closure will take place for five days between 8pm and 5am. There will be signs in place indicating when the road is closed and a diversion will be in place from the A1 along the A607 and back to the B1174, and from the A52 along the A607 and A1.

Executive councillor for highways and transport, Coun Richard Davies, said: “We are in the final four weeks of this project and while we have been able to avoid closing this major route so far, it is unfortunately the only way that we can resurface this section of road leading to the new B1174 roundabout.

“We have scheduled the closures overnight to minimise the disruption as much as possible. The completion of this work will be a major step forward in creating a relief road to take traffic from the A52 to the A1 south of Grantham.”

Access will be maintained for businesses. Motorists should be aware when travelling during the closures that their journey may take longer than usual.
