Have your say

Grantham has a new little star; four-year-old Bella Lindsey.

As her name suggests, she has always been beautiful to her parents Tracy and Crispian, but two-and-a-half years ago it was suggested by a wedding photographer that Bella should also consider joining a child modelling agency.

Since then she has appeared in both local and national advertising campaigns for some of the country’s biggest stores, and most recently become one of the young faces for Matalan’s spring 2016 campaign. This has seen her appear on signs across their 217 stores, in their catalogues posted up and down the country, and online.
Along with her two-year-old sister, Evie, Bella lives with her parents on the Sunningdale estate in Grantham. Proud mum Tracy got in touch with the Journal to tell us more.

* How did Bella become a child model?

Our friends and family have always said to us how beautiful Bella is, and of course we have always known that she is, but it really started after we went to a wedding at the Avenue Hotel. It must been about two-and-a-half years ago. The wedding photographer suggested that we contact a child modelling agency, and it went from there. Bella is now signed with the top agency for children, Scallywags, which is based in London. She has on average about one photo shoot every two months.

* How does Bella find the experience of modelling?

She absolutely loves it! All the dressing up and getting her make-up and hair done. She is a real girly girl. Normally she is very quiet, but as soon as she is at a photoshoot in front of a camera, she just lights up. And if she didn’t enjoy it, if she ever turned around to me and said she didn’t want to do it, I wouldn’t let her do it anymore.

* Who has she modelled for so far?

Lots of places, including Jasper Conran for Debenhams, Mothercare, Boots’ children’s clothing range Mini Club and Chad Valley. The Matalan campaign is probably the biggest so far, as she is in all of the stores, including Grantham’s, and in the catalogues too. We are very, very proud of her.

* Does she get to keep all of the clothes?

No actually, people always ask us that, but the stores don’t normally give away the clothes. But I like to buy what Bella has worn afterwards, and keep them with all her photos in a keepsake box, so that I can show it all to her when she is older. I will be putting this article in the keepsake box too!

* Do you think modelling is something Bella will continue to do for a while?

If she wants to. She starts school in September, at Cliffedale, so we will have to think about fitting in with that, as she often has to travel to London for the photoshoots.

* And lastly, a question for Matalan – what made you choose Bella for your campaign?

Matalan spokesman: Bella is a lovely girl who was perfect for our spring 2016 campaign. Local communities are of massive importance to Matalan so we were thrilled to be able to cast a local star in the making.
