Grantham Town cruise into bank holiday Monday play-off final with victory at Newcastle

GRANTHAM Town enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win at Newcastle Town on Thursday night to secure a place in the Evo-Stik League Division One South play-off final at Rushall Olympic on bank holiday Monday.

Striker Gio Carchedi put the Gingerbreads in front in the 21st minute and skipper Ben Saunders doubled the lead six minutes later.

Grantham continued to dominate in a second half which saw Newcastle reduced to 10 men.

Carchedi doubled his tally to seal the win and send Gingerbreads fans into rapture. Attendance was 465.

Monday’s opponents Rushall Olympic also triumphed 3-0, at home to Brigg Town.

A large travelling Gingerbreads contingent is expected to travel to the promotion deciding match at Rushall. Kick-off on Monday is 3pm.
