HADRIAN’S Wall was no match for a pair with Armed Forces training.
Gary Watson and Jeff Peacock, who both live in Grantham, took on the six-day, 84-mile trek to raise money for Combat Stress. So far they have raised £2,200.
Gary said: “We’re really pleased with the amount of money we’ve raised. We appreciate people’s generosity when we were out collecting, even children were putting in their pocket money.
“It was nice and easy. I was very tired at the end but that was due to Jeff’s snoring - for me, trying to sleep in a room with that noise was the most challenging part!”
They were not just lucky with accommodation during the walk, finding bunk houses were only a few pounds more than a camping pitch, as even though the weather was not great they were heading the right way for it not to be a problem.
Gary said: “Everyone coming towards us had the wind and the rain in their faces. They looked pretty miserable.”
This is the first challenge the duo have completed together, but there are already plans to beat it next year with a 10 day coast to coast trek in Scotland, which covers 150 miles.
l Gary and Jeff said they would like to thank everybody who sponsored them for this trek, especially: Knightingales, Bladerunner, Mark Bates, Asda and Sainsbury’s. To add your sponsorship go to www.justgiving.com/jeffandgaz
