HAIRDRESSERS at Headroom in Guildhall Street went to great lengths to raise hundreds of pounds at the weekend.
Staff came in to work on Friday in fancy dress and three male members of the team had their legs waxed to raise almost £600.
The money will go to the family of 20-year-old Granthamian Jamie Bates, in hospital recovering from serious head injuries following an accident last summer.
Craig Fawkes of Headroom said: “Jamie worked as a trainee hairdresser here for around three years and we know if he was still working here he would have loved what we were doing and would have been the first to dress up.
“Clients were donating money in advance and we also had a cake sale so we are really pleased with how it went.
“The leg waxing was painful to be honest. The girls were all calling us whimps but we have more hair than they do so it hurts more!”
The fund-raising comes fresh on the heels of last week’s successful football match and a walk at Belvoir Castle.
More events have been planned, with a fund-raising day to be held at The Castlegate pub this Saturday (Feb 13). The pub will host a 24-hour pool tournament featuring Luke Short, Paul Gwyther, Aide Rowarth and Kyle Snowden.
There is also a “No Boot, Boot Sale planned for Grantham College refectory on March 12, 2011.
