A HOSPITAL consultant has received an award for his outstanding lifetime contributions to geriatric medicine internationally.
Consultant Physician Dr Vijay Sood, who works at Grantham and District Hospital, was given the distinguished services award by the Geriatric Society of India.
He said: “I am honoured to receive this award. I hope that my contributions to elderly care medicine will continue to aid work in the field in the future.”
Dr Sood, who is an Honorary Fellow and UK co-ordinator of the Geriatric Society of India, is noted for vastly improving the provision of elderly care at Grantham.
He implemented new protocols for preventative and reactive stroke care in line with national guidelines as well as introducing Parkinson’s Disease and mini-stroke clinics.
A spokesman for the hospital said: “Dr Sood is highly esteemed among his colleagues in Grantham and peers around the world.
“He has presented a number of widely credited papers at many international conferences and chaired many clinical teaching sessions during his career.”
Dr Sood, who retires in March added: “I am pleased to be in a position to take my expertise to any part of the world to promote the advancement of quality geriatric care.”
