Opportunity to name the new Grantham Hospital unit
A NEW breast cancer unit is being created at Grantham Hospital and YOU have the chance to name it.
It aims to bring all breast care services together in one place to provide a single, dedicated breast care unit at the town’s hospital. It will include outpatient clinics, examinations, counselling and prosthetic services.
The unit is in the former Admission and Discharge Lounge, between the hospital library and the Coronary Care Unit. And outpatients are already being seen following the first stage of the project.
The next stage is the development of four new examination rooms, which are due to be completed next month.
Then the third stage will incorporate diagnostic services within the department, meaning that women could have a mammogram and ultrasound within the department rather than having to use a mobile screening facility.
Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist Nicky Turner said: “Breast care has been delivered at Grantham since 1995 but was previously delivered in a combination of rooms.
“It is wonderful for our breast patients to be able to visit a centralised unit that is dedicated to breast care, and that is thanks to the dedication and commitment of individuals who felt passionate about making their vision a reality.”
A number of groups including the Grantham Breast Cancer Support Group and Long Bennington village have supported the unit by donating £12,000 over the past few years.
If you have a suggestion for the name of the unit, fill in the coupon, top right. Entries must be received by the end of October. The winning entry will be announced at the official opening ceremony.
Write your name, address, phone number, e-mail address (if possible) and the suggested name for the unit and send it to: Clare White, Communications Manager, United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust HQ, Lincoln County Hospital, Greetwell Road, Lincoln, LN2 4AX, or take your suggestion to the breast unit reception, or you can e-mail it through to: ULHCommunications@ulh.nhs.uk
