WOMEN are being encouraged to become breast aware at Grantham Hospital this October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust is going to be displaying special information stands in the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre at the hospital throughout the month.

Detecting breast cancer early can make treatment more effective and the trust is encouraging women who have any concerns about breast cancer or who would like more information to go to the centre to speak to a member of the team.

Macmillan Breast Care Nurse Specialist Jo Divver said: “October is a month for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of their work and of the disease, as well as reminding women to be breast aware for earlier detection.

“Throughout a woman’s lifetime it is natural for the breasts to go through changes. Knowing what changes to look for can allow for the speedy detection of breast cancer and also prevent unnecessary worry.”
