A new sign erected at Grantham Hospital directs people to the maternity unit - which closed down at the beginning of this year.

District and county councillor Ray Wootten, of Grantham, spotted the new sign in the hospital grounds near the former maternity unit building. The sign also points people in the direction of the new St Barnabas ‘hospice within a hospice’ and the Manthorpe Centre.

Coun Wootten said: “I spotted this new sign which shows the way to the new St Barnabas Hospice. Perhaps they are bringing the maternity unit back to Grantham? But no in reality they did not know what to call the remaining services that were left.”

Coun Wootten also said he had received a lot of support after his protest against the closure of the old hospital which could be demolished and turned into a temporary car park. Coun Wootten said: “I have had a lot of support for a campaign to save the old hospital. We will be attending the AGM of the Trust board which will be held in Boston and see where we go from there. A good possibility is to launch a campaign to save the hospital.”

The annual public meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 7, in the lecture theatre at the Postgraduate Medical Education Centre, Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
