Mr Wells asked how many lives would be lost as a result of the closure of the A&E unit before walking out of the meeting. There was some applause as he left.

Dr Kapadia was giving a presentation to the meeting to explain why Grantham A&E department has been closed since August 17 between 6.30pm and 9am every night.

The closure is initially for three months but Dr Kapadia said there could be no guarantee that this will not be extended.
