LEA Crompton, 18, is single-handedly organising a big fund-raising event in Grantham to raise money for Comic Relief - and she wants to see you there.
Lea, an employee of car dealership Victor Woods, is drumming up support from Grantham businesses as well as encouraging local families to take part in a bid to “make Grantham a team”.
She wants to see thousands of noisy people in fancy dress at the South Kesteven Sports Stadium on Saturday, March 12, to run some fun laps around the track.
She hopes the event will “bring the community together with their spirits high and their laughter back in these hard times”.
Lea said: “Why don’t we all just get together and raise this money as a team here in Grantham? My ideas are very strong and my feelings for Grantham very strong. We should all work as a team.
“We all get up in arms and stand up together when something’s wrong, like with the hospital, so why can’t we link our arms and skip down the yellow brick road and raise money for children?”
Lea hopes the many youth groups, cadets and schools in the town will join in the big fund-raiser, which she hopes will become a popular annual event in Grantham’s calendar.
There will also be activities, stalls and refreshments at The Meres Leisure Centre, along with live music by Grantham band Crazy Ape.
Through her powers of persuasion, she has some big firms such as Totemic and Asda on board for sponsorship, and she plans to convince more to pledge their support.
She said: “I want to get local businesses to join together and use each other’s resources to make this work.”
Firms are being urged to register their support now by calling Lea on 01476 566110. Alternatively, register at the leisure centre, the Guildhall or Asda.
