28/09/07 - Why didn't the car park have a bicycle section?
Having read the article of the new hi-tech car park that opened in Welham Street, I could not help thinking SKDC have missed a golden opportunity here.
Having read the article of the new hi-tech car park that opened in Welham Street, I could not help thinking SKDC have missed a golden opportunity here.
As a keen cyclist, I occasionally like to cycle from Bottesford along the canal into Grantham.
But there is nowhere safe to keep my 500 bike. I'm rather reluctant to leave it chained to railings in the open and there is nowhere in Grantham I know, that provides a safe and secure bike park.
Wouldn't it have been a few brownie points for the council, if during the planning stage of this car park they had allocated a section to secure parking for bicycles?
Not only would the council be doing something to reduce the congestion in town, but also showing it was promoting real green issues with their 2.5 million pounds.
Instead what are they up to?
Promoting an industrial wind farm, planned for Thacksons Well, Long Bennington, which will not be a CO2 saver and will not be good for the environment.
