Grantham Journal letter: Little merit in this plan
Oh dear! Must we really have a Maggie statue here? Judging by her infrequent visits, Grantham was not a place for which she had much affection.
Supporters of the idea seem to think that they are in a large majority, but I am not so sure. They forget how divisive a figure she was during her years in power.
Yes, becoming our first female Prime Minister was a notable achievement, but little to compare with those of Isaac Newton. And he had to wait 130 years after his death before being honoured by a statue in Grantham!
