Writer shouldn’t pour scorn from distance
IT is a great pity that David Burling (page 7, guest political writer, September 28) did not come to our ‘Big Conversation’ meeting in person last week rather than trying to pour cold water from a distance.
Had he been present he would have learnt how the council has found substantial savings, while protecting frontline services and freezing council tax for several years.
He would have also heard how we have invested in broadband, and improvements to the town centre, including Westgate and Station Approach.
In partnership with South Kesteven, we are making good progress with the bypass, with planning permission about to be sought.
As a prospective Police and Crime Commissioner candidate, Richard Davies also outlined his proposals to help keep the people of Grantham safe. All of this is to ensure the future safety and prosperity of the town.
In Grantham and the other seven county-wide Big Conversation events, we have had useful, insightful feedback from the public attending. For example, speed limits, road maintenance, libraries, schools and even sewage smells.
We will look into all the issues raised and promise to address them as best we can.
I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to attend the meetings – talking face-to-face with people is still the best form of consultation.
