AS news is announced that Lincolnshire Music Service has secured £2.5 million for music education, county councillor Patricia Bradwell explains what it means for the county.

The cash has come from the Department for Education, allocated for 2012-2015. It is one of six hubs across the East Midlands to receive funding.

Coun Bradwell, executive councillor for children’s services, said: “This is great news for music education in Lincolnshire.

“The aim is to ensure that every child aged five to 18 has the opportunity to sing and learn a musical instrument, to progress to the next level, and play with other children as part of an ensemble or choir.

“The new hubs will provide significantly improved opportunities for all young people to benefit from high quality musical experiences regardless of where they live, and rural schools will be supported.

“It’s important that all have a chance to enjoy and excel in music education.

“I look forward to our Music Service leading the Lincolnshire hub to success with a range of partners and organisations.

“Who knows, we just might unearth some stars of the future.”
