DONATIONS totalling £2,750 were handed to great local causes at a Rotary Club of Grantham Kesteven dinner.

The money was raised during a golf tournament held at Belton Park Golf Club back in June.

A cheque for £2,500 was handed to a representative of the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, while £250 was given to a member of Allington LIVES.

The two charities were chosen by last year’s Rotary club president, Marion Strange.

She said: “I’m delighted to support volunteers like ourselves who are doing a job out in the community for the benefit of everyone.

“Both are very important charities and I’m pleased we have been able to raise money through our golf day.”

Representatives gave speeches following the presentations, including one form Sharon Andrews, who founded Allington LIVES over two years ago. She thanked Marion for her donation and told the gathering that the money will go towards members’ ongoing training.

Meanwhile, air ambulance representative Tony Stimpson said it is “absolutely vital” that the comounity raises money to keep the chopper in the air.

Following the three-course meal, also held at Belton Park Golf Club, club president Toby Griffin introduced the guest speaker, retired surgeon Rami Seth. He gave a humourous talk about his career, during which he praised the NHS.

l Next year’s golf competition, the club’s 10th annual event, will raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
