The chairman of South Kesteven District Council, Councillor Reginald Howard, and the Mayor of Grantham, Councillor Ian Selby, joined parents and students at Walton’s annual art exhibition and award ceremony.

Works on display at the high school and sixth form included a wide variety of paintings, textiles, photography, scupltures and other forms of media art.

Mayor Selby said: “Having attended Walton’s art exhibition last year, I didn’t imagine it could get any better, but I am amazed at the standards the students have achieved this year.”

On the night chair of governors David Mackintosh and faculty leader for visual arts Lynsay Volley presented students with awards in recognition of their excellent progress, and to those who have achieved a consistently high standard of work during the academic year.

Mrs Volley said: “The exhibition is testimony to the diverse, ambitious and well-crafted artwork that students produce here at Walton.”

Over 200 guests attended and voted for their favourite piece of art, with the winner being Year 11 student Tobi Meuwissen, whose innovative use of a jigsaw puzzle as the canvas of her work proved popular.
