Belton House will open for the new season next weekend, after months of conservation work.
Throughout 2014, Belton will be celebrating ‘Belton by Design’ and an exhibition of contemporary silver from the Goldsmiths’ Company will be an added attraction for visitors.
Visitor services manager Mary Kindred said:“This exhibition is the culmination of a five-year partnership between The Goldsmiths’ Company and the National Trust, and we’re delighted to welcome silversmith Angela Cork as our artist in residence.”
During her residency, visitors will be able to meet Angela as she will be working most Saturdays in the house. She will be producing a silver beaker, the design of which has been inspired by carving on Belton’s main staircase. This unique piece of silver will be won by one very lucky visitor at the end of the house open season.
Regular visitors to Belton will also notice some changes in the way the house opens to visitors.
Mary Kindred said: “We no longer have a set route through the house. Instead, visitors can explore at their own pace. There’ll be a variety of guided tours available as well as opportunities to delve a little deeper into Belton history. This means that as a visitor you can plan your day, your way.”
Belton House is open Wednesday-Sunday from March 8 to November 2.
