A student at Priory Ruskin Academy in Grantham has won a county-wide photography competition with her black and white image taken through the spokes of bicycles.

Payton Brown, 15, a Year 10 GCSE Photography student is one of the five winners in the Lincs FM Wrates Young Photographer of the Year competition.

The theme was ‘School Life’ and Payton took her image during a school photography lesson where the focus was composition and taking images from different angles and perspectives.

Payton’s prize consisted of two canvases of her photo, one for her and one for the school plus a ‘studio style’ photography lesson for her class given by Wrates Photography.

Payton said: “I am really proud. I did not think I would win.”

Director of Visual Arts at the academy Bev Renshaw-Turner said: “The school has an incredibly popular Photography department. GCSE and A-level courses are over-subscribed and the students’ work is of an exceptional level.”
