BREAKING NEWS: Fears for Grantham schoolboy, 12, missing on French holiday island

A schoolboy from Grantham has gone missing after going on a bike ride on Porquerolles island in the south of France.

Pierre Barnes, 12, went missing on Saturday night as storms battered the island.

French television is reporting that he went out alone just hours after arriving with his family for a week-long holiday.

A search team spent the night scouring the island for him, and yesterday morning (Sunday) discovered his damaged bicycle with a derailed chain next to one of his shoes on a coastal path.

Pierre’s father Stephen Barnes, a property company director, told French television his son is a strong boy and hoped he had found a place to sleep out of the wind.

The search continues as weather conditions are expected to worsen.

More to follow.
