Lincolnshire County Council Chairman Ray Wootten is a former Mayor of Grantham and serves on the district council, representing St Wulfram’s ward.
He retired from the police in 1999 at the age of 47 after a 22-year career was cut short by an injury sustained on duty.
Coun Wootten’s wife Linda was Mayoress when he was Mayor of Grantham in 2009 and she is also a county councillor.
The couple have two grown-up children and moved to Grantham with the aim of “starting a new life” following Coun Wootten’s retirement.
Although he stands as a Conservative, he says politics is secondary to his desire to help people in the local community.
Before the police, Coun Wootten served in the RAF interpreting aerial photographs.
He is a volunteer for the armed forces charity SSAFA, a member of Grantham Lions and a governor at two local schools.
He is fascinated by military history and has visited all the former communist countries.
