A community action day has been organised to clear a Grantham underpass of litter and graffiti.
Network Rail and South Kesteven District Council’s waste and recycling team will be joined by volunteers from Huntingtower Primary Academy, East Coast Trains and British Transport Police to tidy the walkway between Station Road and the footpath adjoining Huntingtower Road.
SKDC is supplying bin bags, brushes, litter pickers, gloves and hi-vis vests and will assist with the removal of larger items.
Children from the school are also designing a mural to be installed on the outer bridge wall after the work has been completed.
SKDC’s portfolio holder for healthy environment Councillor John Smith said: “We’re delighted to work with Network Rail and other agencies to clear this litter troublespot and continue the campaign to make Grantham clean and green.
“We are keen to find a long-term solution to keep litter down in the area. If anyone witnesses individuals dropping litter or fly-tipping please contact us on 01476 406080.”
Liz Reedy, community safety manager for Network Rail, added: “It is really heartening to see our partners in the rail industry and the local community coming together like this to make a real difference to the area.”
The clean-up is set to commence at 7.30am on Wednesday, April 9, with a signposted diverson for pedestrians along Station Road, Harlaxton Road and Huntingtower Road.
