Clubber spat at police officer after night out club

A POLICE officer was assaulted in Grantham town centre by a man who had downed lager, cider and 10 vodka and Red Bulls.

Luke Todd, of Falcon Court in Grantham, admitted a public order offence and assaulting a police officer by spitting at him.

Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, said Todd was ejected from Vibe night club in Grantham before becoming argumentative.

He refused to calm down and swore at a police officer before being arrested.

However, Todd, 24, refused to go quietly, head-butting a police van and spitting onto the chest of an officer.

Mr Pietryka told the court Todd admitted drinking “quite a large amount of alcohol” including 10 vodka and Red Bulls.

Mr Fraser, defending, said: “This started off as an evening where Mr Todd went out to have a few drinks but had too many.

“Excessive drink caused him to act as he did.”

Chair of magistrates Mrs Jenny James described the spitting incident as “a most unpleasant offence”.

She added: “This was particularly nasty and is beginning to show a pattern of behaviour which brings you before the courts.

“You have too much to drink and threaten people around you and spoil their night out. In this case, you have assaulted a police officer again.”

Todd was sentenced to an 18-month community order including supervision from the probation service.

He must also attend an alcohol programme and pay £85 costs.
