Congregation celebrates church’s 40th anniversary
MEMBERS of Grantham’s Seventh Day Adventist Church have celebrated its 40th anniversary.
A special service to mark the milestone was attended by Mayor of Grantham Rob Hearmon on Saturday, November 6.
The church officially opened on November 14 1970, having been built on a “shoestring budget” of £40,000.
That money provided the shell of the building, and the rest of the work was completed by Sunday working parties from Stanborough Press, the publishing company owned by the Seventh Day Adventists and based in Alma Park, Grantham.
During the service Philip Anderson, who was the church’s pastor when it was built, described how the congregation came together to complete the work.
Current minister John Ferguson said: “Forty years on some things have not changed: the astonishing spirit of co-operation among the Seventh-day Adventist membership.
“It is as great today as it was when the church was built forty years ago and I am pleased and proud to be the pastor of this congregation.”
