Couple caught stealing from Downtown
A COUPLE admitted stealing more than £1,000 worth of goods including fishing rods from Downtown in Gonerby Moor.
The pair worked together to smuggle the items out of the store with one stealing the goods and passing them over the fence to the other.
Paul Austwick, 46, and Angela Peacock, 52, who live together in Witham Road, Long Bennington, both admitted two charges of stealing from Downtown.
The court heard how the pair stole fishing rods and a jacket worth £259 on August 21 before returning a day later to steal fishing rods and other stationery equipment worth £816.39 the following day.
They were both caught in the act attempting their second theft and confessed to the previous theft during their interview with police. All of the goods were recovered.
Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, described how the pair worked together to steal the items.
He said: “They were seen to pick up fishing rods, leave the area then pass items through the fence of the store that leads out to the car park.”
The case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports until October 1 at 3pm. Both were given unconditional bail.
