Court: Heroin user told to ‘grow up’

Police arrested a man for possession of heroin after witnessing him leave the home of a known drug dealer in Grantham.

Police approached Ben Parker of Beverleys Avenue, Whatton, but he ran away. Parker was tracked via CCTV and seen to return to Hornsby Road and begin searching an area of grass in Hornsby Road.

Police suspected he had dropped the drugs in the area before they were picked up by an unknown person. They then suspected he met that person and recovered the drugs.

Police officers moved in again and caught Parker moments after he again dropped the drugs. Three wraps of heroin were recovered.

Parker, 27, told officers he bought the heroin for his own use. He said he uses two bags a day and has smoked heroin for eight years.

Chris Pye-Smith, defending, told the court Parker intends to give up heroin.

Parker admitted possession of a Class A drug. He was fined £110 and ordered to pay costs of £40 and a £20 surcharge.

Parker said he would only be able to pay the money back at £5 a week.

Chair of magistrates Jane Tidswell said: “It’s a mystery how you manage to use and pay for it when you have not got any money.

“It’s time you got yourself sorted out isn’t it? Grow up.”
