A cyclist sustained serious injuries along a country road near Waltham-on-the-Wolds yesterday (Sunday).

The man, in his 50s, suffered head, chest and pelvic injuries, but it is not known how he came to be injured, according to the air ambulance crew which attended the scene.

He was given road-side treatment by air and land ambulance crews, and also a passing GP.

A spokesman for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) said: “The DLRAA crew were tasked due to the clinical urgency of the situation. They received the call at around 12.14pm and landed at the scene 11 minutes later.

“Along with the East Midlands Ambulance Service and a passing GP, the patient was given extensive treatment for his injuries at the scene. He was then immobilised before being airlifted to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham for further treatment.

“The patient’s current condition is unknown.”
