A life-saving piece of kit has been donated to the Grantham Canal Society by a club which was forced to close and dispose of its assets.
Melton Sailing Club closed last year when land at Frisby Water Park, where the club was based, was earmarked for development. As a result, its members decided to splash out on a new defibrillator for the canal society and it was presented on Thursday.
Society spokesman Steve Swann said: “The defibrillator will provide a much-needed piece of safety equipment for use by the Grantham Canal Society’s volunteers, who actively participate in the restoration of this beautiful 33-mile long canal.
“This has all happened at a time when significant additional work will be undertaken by the volunteers over the coming years, ultimately leading to the reinstatement of the ‘Grantham’ to a fully navigable waterway.”
