Drunk who repeatedly kicked his mum is jailed

A DRUNK who repeatedly kicked his 70-year-old mother was put on a restraining order and sentenced to nine weeks in prison by the district judge on Wednesday.

Sean Bennett, 39, formerly of Springfield Road, Grantham, admitted the assault.

Bennett, who was drinking about 30 bottles of wine a week, was dancing in the kitchen when his mother came in.

Prosecuting, Jill Derby, said: “He came towards her
aggressively. She called him stupid and cowardly.

“He kicked her to the left ankle and asked her if it hurt.

“He then kicked her to the right ankle.”

The victim was in a lot of pain but Bennett continued to kick her on the arms.

Mrs Derby said: “She got free and went into the bedroom to get away.”

This was not the first time Bennett had been abusive or aggressive towards his mother.

He pleaded guilty to the attack two weeks ago and was jailed prior to sentencing because of his unworkable living situation.

Julian Sheen, defending, said: “He has to go without alcohol. There was a three day period when he was crawling up the walls.

“His demeanour is hugely different from two weeks ago.

District Judge Richard Blake told Bennett he must not go within 100 yards of his mother’s home or cause her distress.
