End of the line for number 7 bus route through Grantham

It was announced via Twitter this week that the Sunningdale to Grantham and Somerby bus route which goes through the town centre is ending on April 22.

The decision has been taken because of falling revenue, with the service no longer commercially viable.

The number 7 bus which currently takes passengers from St Pierre Avenue in Sunningdale along The Belfry and to Grantham’s High Street, rail and bus stations before arriving at Somerby, will end in three weeks.

Dave Shelley, Commercial Director at Centrebus who run the service, explained: “Service 7 is being withdrawn because the revenue collected from operating the service is insufficient to cover its operating costs.

“Lincolnshire County Council have asked us to make changes to the 9 service, which we operate under contract to them, so that Sunningdale and Somerby continue to get a limited service.

“This change will be introduced at the same time as the withdrawal of the 7,” he added.
