Few families are aware of the activities and support they can access at children’s centres across the district.
But thanks to an open day at South Witham Children’s Centre, many more in the village and surrounding area have discovered the facility on their doorstep.
Over 100 parents and children went along to the event last Wednesday, where youngsters had their faces painted, made masks and tried other activities.
Meanwhile, parents were able to get advice from health teams, and speak to representatives from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, Lincolnshire Police, Citizens Advice Bureau and more.
Julie Ashworth is community engagement manager for all children’s centres in South Kesteven. She said: “We took over the school hall as well, and put on lots of activities suitable for nought to 10-year-olds. We aimed to break down some barriers and let people see what goes on at the centre.”
She added that few people know that sessions and classes at children’s centres are free.
