EVERY mother will tell you how special their children are - but these four are truly one in a billion.

Little Alice Baxter, seen here welcoming her sisters to the world, is three years older than her siblings - yet the four are actually quadruplets.

The Baxter family, of Foston, have made headlines around the world following the birth in January of their three daughters Niamh, Maisy and Noah.

Mum, Helen Baxter, 41, gave birth to Alice in 2007 and had her remaining embryos frozen after getting pregnant with Alice.

Doctors at the Care Fertility clinic in Nottingham implanted last year and everyone was amazed when all three took hold - not least Helen.

She said: “We couldn’t quite believe it.

“We were looking for a sister or brother for Alice and we got three.”

Helen and husband Shane, 37, had been trying to conceive naturally for 18 months but tests found Helen had scar tissue on her fallopian tubes.

The couple decided to undergo fertility treatment and, two weeks later, Helen was pregnant with Alice.

They then began trying for another baby but after two miscarriages they returned to the clinic and the frozen eggs.

Helen had three implanted, hoping one would develop but an eight-week scan discovered she was pregnant with triplets.

The babies, who are non-identical, were delivered six weeks early.

Noah and Niamh weighed four pounds and Maisy just two pounds.

Lucy Jenner is the lab manager at the Care Fertility clinic in Nottingham, where Helen and Shane went for fertility treatment.

She said: “It is not the first time we have had triplets but it is the first time we have had triplets from the same set of frozen embryos we had already had a baby from.

“Over the last few years the success rates have certainly increased with research and the improvements of techniques.”

The new additions to the Baxter family have had a big impact on the household.

The family have had to splash out on a new car to shuttle the children around, while the family’s other members - two horses, tow dogs and a cat - will have to take a back seat for a little while.
