The fire engine which ended up in ditch while heading to the road collision in Bottesford

Firefighters suffered their own accident while heading to a road traffic collision in Bottesford today.

Crews from Grantham and Newark both attended the collision involving a Vauxhall Vectra on Belvoir Road in Bottesford.

Mick Green, assistant chief fire officer for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: “At 12.24pm, two fire appliances were mobilised to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision at Belvoir Road, Bottesford.

“En route, one of the responding appliances was involved in a minor accident and ended up in a shallow ditch.

“One crew member suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident. The other crew members continued to the incident on foot to assist other responding firefighters in releasing one casualty from a vehicle using hydraulic rescue equipment.”

After being rescued the male casualty was taken by ambulance to hospital.
