Firefighters receive plaque from Grantham’s twin town Sankt Augustin

Twinning association members would like to see fire officers exchanged between Grantham and its twin town in Germany as part of developing links with the two communities.

The idea emerged after Grantham twinners presented town firefighters with a plaque from Bonn Fire Station, the nearest to the twin town of Sankt Augustin.

Members of Green Watch at Grantham Fire Station and their manager, Matt Peace, received the commemorative offering during a twinning association visit to the Harlaxton Road headquarters, with divisional commander, Nick Davis, also in attendance. This was in response to a plaque which the town twinners had given to the fire station in Bonn in September this year on behalf of the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Linda Wootten, chairman of Grantham Twinning Association, who made the presentation to Grantham firefighters on behalf of the German crew, said: “It was a nice gesture from the Bonn Fire Station officers.

“Something we are contemplating is organising an exchange between fire officers over there and our fire officers in Grantham to help strengthen links further.”
