FOOD REVIEW: Liberty Rose is perfect for a leisurely lunch

Liberty Rose Tea Rooms in Butchers Row. 514C

Liberty Rose Tea Rooms in Butchers Row. 514C

Marie Baker and Suzie Pike enjoyed the recently-opened

tea rooms in Butcher’s Row

Marie writes:

This is the perfect place for a leisurely lunch with the girls.

It’s quite an intimate setting with only a handful of tables, and a lovely decor adds to the cosy atmosphere. Everything down to the teaspoons is in keeping with the quaint tearoom ideal.

Meanwhile, the emphasis of being family-friendly is evident by the space between tables for pushchairs and the children’s corner complete with wooden house and toys.

I ordered Lincolnshire sausage quiche with chutney and side salad, and it was home-made and delicious. Afterwards, I asked for a fruit scone with jam and clotted cream, and it, too, was very tasty. It was difficult when it came to choosing a cake as they all looked delicious, and I was almost tempted to try the unusual lime and courgette cake.

I will say that the tea room is more a place to go for a leisurely lunch than if you’re in a rush.

Suzie writes:

I was really impressed by the decor when we walked into the tea room. It reminded me of a farm house kitchen.

We were lucky to get a seat as there are not many tables and the cafe was quite busy but after sitting down the waitress was prompt to ask us for our order. She was very friendly. If you are looking for a lot of choice this is not the place, but if afternoon tea and cake is your thing then I recommend it thoroughly. The choice of teas, in particular, was impressive.

I chose to have a tuna sandwich, which came with the options of white or seeded bread, and whether or not I wanted salad and mayonnaise. It’s only a little thing, but it was nice to have those choices.

When it arrived, the freshly-made sandwich was stuffed full of ingredients, all of which were tasty.

I also ordered a hot chocolate, which was fantastic with cream and marshmallows.

Finally, even though I was quite full, we could not leave without trying a cake. Although they didn’t have my first choice, I was not disappointed by my second selection, chocolate cupcake. It was layered with a lovely buttercream icing and had the added feature of a piece of Dairy Milk on top. Yummy.
