Friends of man killed by CJD raise £1,000 with charity run
Ian died in April from Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease (CJD).
COLLEAGUES of a Grantham man who died from the rare and incurable disease CJD raised more than £1,000 in his name at the weekend.
Ian Cox, 46, of University Court, Grantham, died on April 26 from Iatrogenic CJD - a disease which was caused by Human Growth Hormone injections he received when he was a boy.
Mr Cox worked as a chef at Stocken Prison in Rutland, and last Friday his work colleagues took part in the prison’s annual fun run to raise funds for the CJD Support Network charity.
Mr Cox’s father, Barrie Cox, of Manners Street, Grantham, said: “It was a really nice family day and we had a lot of support.
“Ian’s whole family went along and we were all made to feel very welcome.

“It was nice to see because he was our son and he was a great lad.”
Three men who worked with Ian in the prison kitchens - Danny Pinner, Darren Clark and Fred Murad - ran the 10km race as a team wearing special CJD Support Network T-shirts displaying a picture of Ian on their back.
Despite having never run such a long distance before, they all made it round in 51min 38sec.
More than 40 people took part in the run, with 27 running the 3km course and 14 tackling the 10km.

John Frain crossed the line first in the 10km with Helen Bull the first woman home.
In the 3km run it was Steve Lovely and Gary Jackson who were back first, with Tess Frost leading the women.
Medals were presented by the governor of HMP Stocken John O’Sullivan.
