Four past or present HSBC employees raised more than £2,000 for charity after taking part in wing walking at Wickenby Airfield near Lincoln.
Each wing walk lasted for 10 minutes, reaching heights of approximately 500ft and speeds of 100mph. The money raised will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
One of the wing walkers, Annette Doran, of Grantham, said: “We were all nervous and excited at the prospect of the wing walk but felt exhilirated after the challenge.”
Personal circumstances inspired the group to donate the money to Macmillan. Tracy Janjevic’s father was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx two years ago and has since had a tracheotomy. As well as this, Mrs Doran was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2009 and after successful treatment she is cancer free. The other wing walkers, Liz Wibberley and Simon Collins, also have close connections with people who have received support from Macmillan.
The group were able to raise the money thanks, in part, to HSBC’s pound for pound scheme.
Their webpage at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/wingwalkers, is still open to accept donations.
